Debt Settlement Companies

If your in debt or ever happen to find yourself in debt, you may consider looking into different debt settlement companies. Usually people consider using a debt settlement company so they can lower their monthly payments and to help them get out of debt quicker. If you must use a debt consolidation service, please do some research because, a lot of scams are out on the market.

First, you need to know the difference between debt settlement and debt consolidation companies. Most people make the mistake by thinking they are the same things, when in fact this isn't true at all. Many debt settlement companies may charge you a admit fee just so they can set up your account. This will cost a couple hundred dollars or more. Plus a monthly fee. These companies will take your money every single month and won't even make your monthly payment to your creditors. Instead they take your money, and put in a trust account. Once the money builds up to a certain amount, they then pay the creditors off in full. Using this method can take years to pay off the creditors. I certainly wouldn't use this method because your creditors can sue you and garnish your wages. Along with all of this, the debt settlement companies will not ask your creditors to stop the late fees from accruing. So instead of owing what you originally started out with, in the long run you will owe more. Many debt settlement companies will not tell you this up front.

Instead of using a debt settlement companies, you may want to consider to negotiate with your creditors yourself. Most creditors will work with you and will agree to accept smaller payments. In the long run you'll save money by not using a debt settlement company.
